Sipi Trout
Earlier in the trip, I heard some stories about trout on the Sipi near Mbale. After a few days teaching, I decided to go check them out. You have to hike above the the third falls on the Sipi to get to cool water. What I found was a small steam crawling through maize and bean fields (the farmers intercrop here, three beans plants at the foot of each corn stalk), and cattle pastures. To the right is the second falls.
After a nice slog up several hundres feet, my guide (he later got drunk off of local brew and past out under a tree) and I approached the third fall. Fishing begins just after the third fall. Casting by a 100 foot drop was a fun experience.
The third falls...
Cattle in the Sipi
He's a picture a nice trout taken from a section you could hop across. That's another guide's finger in the frame (he was sober replacement). The fish was given eggs, too. I caught several fish in the afternoon. It was a blast. Never thought I was going to catch trout on the equator.
